At the end of July three of our volunteers and Maria, one of our researchers, visited the Niña Maria Foundation, an organization that takes care of children who have had their rights violated or whose parents are unwilling or unable to care for them.

They brought gifts for the children, donated by women from Norway. More than 100 girls, boys and adolescents live in these houses, an hour from Bogota.

The Foundation is located in the countryside, it consists of five houses which reproduce the idea of being at home. They live there together with teachers and other professionals, who besides teaching, give enough love to the children to make them feel as part of the Niña Maria family.

Every child received a pair of colourful socks knitted by hand by the donors, they were really happy for the gifts. They were also happy to meet and play with the volunteers: Rolf from Norway, Peter from Denmark and Peter from The United States. Rolf, Peter, Maria and Peter also had a wonderful afternoon with the children and especially loved the small ones, the ones just learning how to walk.

A huge thank you to all the Norwegian women who took the time to knit these wonderful socks specially made for the cold weather we get at night here in Bogota.

In alliance with Golden Colombia, you can work as a volunteer there, you can do thousands of activities, such as teaching English, playing, cooking, painting, teaching arts, or even being the step father for a while for one of the children. There are many options to choose among, it is up to you to select one of those and have an amazing experience with Colombian children in vulnerable conditions. See more about this opportunity at www.goldenamigo.org (in English from September 1st).  See also the experiences of the three volunteers at the site of one of our other partners, Fuerza de las Palabras, in this video
